2021-22 Region 10 Teacher of the Year - Joe Vercellino

I am a music teacher in the heart of Southwest Detroit. It was simple math for me to become a teacher. I knew two things about myself

(1) I have always loved to see and help young people grow, develop, find a purpose and discover themselves.

(2) I knew that music had made a profound impact on me during my life. My best friends, favorite teachers, my most proud moments and my most cherished memories all stemmed from my music experience in school.

Simple math, I picked the ultimate profession where I have the most reach with young people and now I facilitate the experience that changed who I was forever. It only made sense to become a teacher.
